অধ্যাপক আউয়াল বলেন, চাকরি থেকে অবসর নেওয়ার পর কিছু দিন বড় ছেলের সঙ্গেই থাকতাম। ছেলের সংসারে থাকার সময় জানতে পারি ছেলে ও বউয়ের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক ভালো যাচ্ছে না। একদিন বাসায় থাকা অবস্থায় বউয়ের মুখে গালি শুনে বাসা থেকে নেমে আসি। আর ফিরে যাইনি। ওরাও কেউ খোঁজ নেয়নি। ছোট ছেলে অস্ট্রেলিয়া থেকে দেশে আসে ২০১৪ সালে। এসে মিরপুর-১ নম্বরে একটি দোকানে আমার সঙ্গে দেখা করে কথা বলে। সেখানে গেলে আমাকে জানায় তার বিয়ে ঠিক হয়েছে। আমি ওর বাবা অথচ আমাকে জানালও না যে বিয়ে করতে যাচ্ছে। বিয়ে করে আবার চলে যাবে, একথা শুনে ছেলের বউকে দেখতে চান তিনি। কিন্তু তার সাথে দেখা করা যাবে না বলে জানায় ছেলে।
অধ্যাপক আউয়ালের ক্ষোভটা বড় ছেলের দিকে। তিনি বলেন, আমার অন্য সন্তানদের চাইতে বড়টা একটু বেশি চতুর। ওই সব কল-কাঠি নাড়াচ্ছে। আমার সব টাকা ও-ই বিভিন্ন সময় নিয়েছে। এখনো ওর কাছে ৬০ লাখ টাকা পাই। সেই টাকা দিচ্ছে না। আমি উকিলের মাধ্যমে টাকা চেয়ে পাঠাই, ছেলে বলেছে তার কাছে কোনো টাকা নাই। মনের ক্ষোভে বলতে থাকেন, টাকা যদি নাই দেয় তাহলে আমার ছেলেকে আমি ত্যাজ্যপুত্র ঘোষণা করব।
